Tour 6: Westport - Lough Mask - Lough Nafooey

This tour will take you through rather desolate but very beautiful bogland to Lough Mask and through parts of Connemara.

From Westport take the N59 to Leenane and turn left at Liscarney. Follow the single-track road past the Post Office until you get to a junction at the R330. Turn right here and stay on that road (look out for road signs "Tourmakeady").

Initially the road is in a reasonably good state; this changes as soon as you get to the bogland. So be careful and take it easy.

Once you've reached the highest point there is a great view of Lough Mask. Turn right when you hit the R300 in Toormakeady and immediately righ again if you want to go for a very nice walk on the Tourmakeady Nature Trail. It will take you to a small but rather enchanted waterfall (about 15 min. each way).

Drive back to the R300 and turn right. The road will take you along the shores of Lough Mask and Lough Nafooey. Take the L1601 and L1301 until you get to the R336. Turn right and right again at Leenaun. The N59 will take you back to Westport.
