Tour 7: Westport - Leenaun - Maam Cross - Cong

Connemara again. Visit Maam Cross and Cong.

Follow the N59 to Leenaun/Clifden. Turn left at the R344 shortly before Kylemore Abbey. The road - leading through some truely impressive scenery - will take you to the N59. Turn left and drive along the lakes of Connemara to Maam Cross.

If you're old enough (like me) and feel nostalgic, you can stop there and pay a short visit to the cottage from the film "The Quiet Man" (1952) with John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara. Mind you - there isn't much to see...

Im Maam Cross turn left (it's a right turn if you go as far as the cottage) and take the R336 to Maam (turn right here) and follow the R345 to Cong.

Cong is a rather charming place. Visit the ruins of the Abbey and the beautifulpark right behind it. On your way back on R 345 and R300 you might want to stop in Toormakeydy and see the waterfall (see Tour 6).

Turn left when you get to R330; it will take you back to Westport.
